He is currently a Coach for Team Soldierboy on the EFC The Ultimate Fighter 2 reality TV show. As an Athlete Niel was a top ranked South African Junior Tennis Player and moved to the USA where he pursued a career as a Professional Tennis Player for 3 years. On his return to South Africa he decided to switch sports and started practicing Martial Arts. He then became a Povincial Judo player for Gauteng North and competed for them for over 7 years. He then went on to become the National Judo Champion (South Africa), African Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion (Brown & Black Belt Division) and a Bronze Medalist at the World Professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships (Brown Belt Division).
